The annual sculpture symposia bear the best evidence of the living tradition of sculpture and stonemasonry in the town. The symposia have been held since 1966 (interrupted from 1970 to 1988). Tradition of symposia was founded by the artist Vladimir Preclík who was also the president of the event for many years. The artists from all over the world annually meet in the magic atmosphere of the quarry at St. Joseph. The symposia have resulted in a unique collection of international sculpture (1966 – 2000) placed on the slopes of the Gothard Hill and along the road leading to the quarry of St. Joseph. The so called Sculpture Park of St. Gothard is a closed collection of more than 80 sandstone sculptures by artists from Europe, Asia and America.
